Can we please talk for a moment about The Song of the Lioness series? About how Tamora Pierce created a really badass female lead who eventually did become a knight BUT ALSO how she had reproductive autonomy over her own body by use of a magic amulet which she could choose to wear or not wear depending on when SHE felt she was ready to have children and ALSO HOW SHE HAD PREMARITAL SEX WITH THE GODDAMN CROWN PRINCE AND IT DIDN’T NEGATIVELY EFFECT HER OR HER CAREER OR EVEN HER FRIENDSHIP WITH THE DUDE, and then she did end up having a happy marriage AFTER SHE SAVED TORTALL’S ASS A FEW DOZEN TIMES and that’s all cool and stuff
I just think that is really fucking awesome and definitely a powerful message to send young readers. So there.

Also the fact that in future series she becomes a mother and manages to STILL be a working knight and it doesn’t completely change her goals/character, nor is her husband shown to be doing anything unusual by being basically a stay-at-castle-dad working from home.
I’ve read every single one of Tamora Pierce’s books. Tortall has some serious badass bitches. Her heroines are all confident in their sexuality, kick major tail, and are never flat or cliche.
